Round Seven - Cadwell Park 16-18 August 2019

Round Seven Party time at Cadwell Park as Ellis and Kershaw do battle

For the second time this season the UK's premier sidecar series finds itself at the historic Cadwell Park venue, and in the best shape it's been for years. The battle at the top of the table is lining up to go all the way to the wire between last season's top two crews.

Just last weekend at Thruxton, Steve Kershaw and Stuart Clark took two victories, clawing back sixteen points on their young team-mates and series leaders Todd Ellis and Charlie Richardson. In doing so, they defeated the reigning World Champions Ben and Tom Birchall, not just once, but three times.

With eight races remaining, and double points on offer at the Brands finale, the Cadwell Park weekend of 16-18th August will be crucial for the Molson Group/Express Tyres pairing of Kershaw/Clark if they are to retain their title. Todd Ellis is on home ground, and considers Cadwell Park his favourite track. If he and Chaz Richardson's triple victories here in June are anything to go by, that looks to be the case.

Below these two, the chasing pack of seven crews is split by just thirty points. Gary Bryan and Phil Hyde sit third with the GBR Honda, but are under real pressure from Rob Biggs and Jeroen Schmitz (Taurus Tools Honda).

Breathing down their necks, is the Barnes Racing/Silicone Engineering Yamaha of Lewis Blackstock and Paddy Rosney. They had mechanical problems at Thruxton, as did their team-mates John Holden and Lee Cain, but last time in Lincolnshire, both crews were on the podium.

Another fast-emerging threat comes in the shape of former champions Ricky Stevens and Ryan Charlwood, who after a number of crashes early on in the season, are now making up for lost time, and were on lap-record pace in Hampshire. Twice runners-up this year, they will be desperate to climb to the top step of the box.

Former BSB darling Chris “The Stalker” Walker and passenger Ashley Hawes have got themselves into contention for a top five finish, so rest assured they will be another crew giving it their all.

The stage is set for another barn-storming pair of sidecar races, and the party atmosphere here at Cadwell will only serve to further spice up the action. Eurosport are on hand with their usual weekend live coverage, with the second sidecar race between the two main Superbike races on Sunday.
